Chakia Kali Mandir

A long-established temple of Maa Kali in the Chakia area, on the way to Devdari.

Chakia's Kali Mandir (listed by the district as the Chakiya Kaali Mata Mandir) has been a centre of local devotion for generations. If you pass through Chakia on your way to Devdari, it is an easy and atmospheric stop.

About the temple

  • The Chandauli tourism portal places it about 20 km from the district headquarters and says Maa Kali has been worshipped here for hundreds of years.
  • The temple campus includes a large pond, described as spread over about two bighas, with fish.
  • Some accounts credit the temple's construction to the rulers of Banaras State; we have not been able to verify the date.

Festivals and fairs

  • Ramnavami: the biggest event, with cultural programmes and a night vigil running day and night for three days. Devotees come from many places.
  • Mauni Amavasya: a large fair; the district portal notes visitors arriving after the Balua Ghat fair.
  • Janmashtami: matki-phod programmes are held around the district.
  • Kabaddi: the portal mentions a competition drawing players from about 8–10 districts.

During festivals, stalls sell garlands, flowers, wooden toys, laddoos, jalebi and peanuts.

Visiting tips

  • Dress modestly and remove shoes before entering the shrine.
  • Ask before photographing inside the temple or during rituals.
  • Festival days are crowded, so expect slow traffic in Chakia and plan your Devdari trip around them.

How to reach

The temple is in the Chakia area, on the usual route to the Rajdari–Devdari waterfalls. See How to reach from Chakia.
